Fight with Kindness & Build Classroom Community

Today we had a “snow day” AT school! All activities were snow themed. We started by reading Snowmen at Night, by Caralyn Buehner. Actually by the end of the day we had read all of the books from this series. They’re all so great! We did various snowman themed activities and crafts.

I wanted to share what ended up being my favorite part of our “snow day” – a KINDNESS SNOWBALL FIGHT! We divided into two teams. Then, we set up tables across the room from each other with a large open space between. Everyone wrote their name on a piece of paper and crumbled it up.

Then the game began! They threw their “snowballs” at the other team. After a few minutes of throwing I would call time. The team with the least number of snowballs on their side won!

Students ran to the middle to retrieve balls that were out of play.

You could throw the “snowballs” as hard as you wanted and they still don’t fly too far.

Really everyone won this game!

At the end of each round, they would uncrumble the paper and write something kind about the person who’s name was in the middle. Then they would crumble it back up and we’d play again. By the end of the game, each paper was covered in kind compliments!

This was such a fun and easy way to build a kind community in our classroom!
