Who doesn’t love this tradition? Kids standing on their front porch, by the bus stop or in front of their new school holding their first day of school printable posters are the cutest! I started this tradition with my own kids when my oldest was in Kindergarten. We do the same thing on the last day of school so we can see how much they’ve grown and changed that school year. Now, I get to look back at years and years of development without trying to figure out “how old they are in that picture”. As a parent, I think first day of school signs are the BEST! I have them for every year up to senior year.

That’s why I decided to start using them in my classroom, too! I understand that morning routines at home can be hectic. This is especially true on the first week of school when everyone is trying to adjust to the new routines and waking up WAY too early. So many parents want to take cute pictures of their kids but run out of time in the hustle and bustle of the morning.

It makes my heart happy that I can do this for them! I use these sweet & FREE first day of school signs. Here’s my routine:

  1. As the kids are coloring or playing with playdoh, I call them up one at a time.
  2. I use this time to personally say good morning and tell them that I’m so excited they’re in my class.
  3. I snap a picture in front of a plain bulletin board. A
  4. t the end of the day, I send these pictures to parents telling them how great it was to meet their child and that I’m looking forward to working with them this year.
